Wednesday, October 11th So I wrote back to my brother justifying WHY I am going to the Ricky Martin concert tonight... that I've never been to an outdoor concert in Taipei before... and that we got dirt cheap tickets for the "Rock & Roll" section of the stadium. Here was his response:
Rrrrrrricky Martinnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This morning, as usual, I was so freakin' busy. I had a LONG ASS phone conversation with Gus trying figure out how best to track and consolidate all of our interactions with recruiters, from those that have posted to our boards in the past, to those that we will be 'cold emailing', to those that we'll be faxing marketing brochures to in the future. It reminded me of the nightmare at Citibank when we needed to "mine" the databases of our credit card customers, bank customers, loan customers, etc. Nasty. I also helped a colleague write up a Memorandum of Agreement that added to my dull headache. How many times do I have to explain that I am an English editor and that that's NOT the same thing as a corporate attorney. Or... is it... Thank goodness for one thing. I did not receive any emails this morning. Not one. Yyyes!
The website, service, or product displayed here is used and/or endorsed by Yours Truly. I spent the evening revising the .COM rev model for the umpteenth time. I HATE this thing. Gus worked on the automated/personalized email invitation system to job recruiters. May and Jeannie helped us write a Chinese version that we added to the bottom of the invite for those local HR specialists who prefer reading Chinese text over English. Looking good. I get so PSYCHED at the thought of rolling out this new marketing program and to be able to study the effects it will have on our site activity. Plus, I have to admit that I rather enjoy writing the invitation text that goes with... am crossing my fingers that they'll take the bait. GO FISH BABY.
I took a break to get a cappuccino at the Taipei World Trade Exhibition Center. Evidently they just renovated the 2nd floor cafeteria... which annoyed me. Why don't they move all the food establishments and postal services to the TOP floor of the building? Wouldn't that encourage trade show participants who come from all over the world to go UP and check out the seven floors of merchant displays? Wouldn't that create more opportunities for business deals to take place, and wouldn't that increase overall trade activity for Taiwan? Isn't that what this building is for?! WHO CARES about China's entry into the WTO!
Mark sent us an email from Boracay and I tell you, his website totally inspires me to get mine up and running. Here's good 'ole Mark in the flesh:
![]() I also took another gander at Tina Turner's site too. That woman kicks ass and yes, I did take some ideas from her virtual abode. Call it an unofficial co-branding relationship if you will, except that I'm not charging her anything for this promo. And, through today's PayPal newsletter I also surfed over to uh... Rick Springfield's new site. No comment.
Just before I left the office... Gus walked me through a very detailed process on how we were going to use our current systems to send personalized invitation emails to the 91 recruiters in our excel file. As a temporary solution, we'll just copy the redirect Excel column to Textpad, save it as the .htaccess file, upload it, and then manually use the online input form he created to send personalized emails one by one to the recruiters. Don't ask me to explain what I just said. We've both been working our butts off to develop this marketing program. It *better* work. Ok. Off to see Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrricky!!!!!
