Surprise birthday PARTAY for Mike!

Got an email this morning from Barbara which tripped... me... out. For the past few days she and Patty were trying to think of a place to hold Mike's surprise birthday bash this Saturday (he turns 30), and there was quite a bit of activity on email amongst us all with suggestions. Last night at CAPT, Patty had mentioned KTV which I absolutely hate but will go to for this, and then this morning Barbara sends out an email with the final decision - We're taking Mike to Hooters for dinner.

AWESOME. Apparently it was Jen's idea, and she's not even here!

The freak in me...

Wennie is on a must-do-something-with-hair kick and came over trying to convince me to get streaks in mine. I'm actually considering it.

Sign of the times...

The KMT is trying to have Chen Shu-Bien recalled. I am not politically active and am neutral to the Great Divide (mostly because I just don't know enough about Taiwan politics to make a judgment call) but let me just say this. The KMT needs to think a little BIGGER than they currently are.

IFF they manage to successfully have him recalled, how damaging is that to the credibility of the Republic of China as a nation in the eyes of the rest of the world? We just had one of the most incredible democratic elections ever had in the history of Taiwan (okay so it's only their second one but still...) in which voter turnout was over 90% and within less than a year you want to RECALL your President for an assumingly poor decision he made that PERHAPS could be addressed in a different way such that we don't simultaneously compromise the credibility of a nation that is trying very hard to establish one?

GET A LIFE. GO MAKE A PERSONAL WEBSITE OR SOMETHING.

Also disturbing, and greatly so, was the Singapore Airlines crash here at the CKS Airport. Tragedies like that trouble me deeply. Human error can never be fully eliminated, but I find it hard to believe that there would be ANY room for error when it comes to helping a pilot determine which runway to takeoff from and that the responsibility rests upon the aiport facilities/management. Not the pilot. My two cents.

When exhausted, stupid stuff becomes really funny...

I worked my ass off today and didn't get home until very late. Laurie was already in bed, and Adella was out for the evening. I am about to enter the kitchen because I am TIRED and HUNGRY when I notice a note posted on the kitchen door. With a big black magic marker one of them had written:

Christine, the RAT is up on
the top cupboard with his
head shoved into the crack.

Sure enough, as I very carefully peered into the kitchen, there it was. Apparently, Adella had gone into the kitchen earlier this evening and scared the heck of this rat, who in a panic dived for a hole in the wall and got his head stuck in it. All I could see was his butt, his legs, and his tail. He was to hang there for the rest of the night. Though I was totally and utterly disgusted, I stood there by myself in the kitchen giggling quietly for the next 20 minutes. It was such a whacky scene.

Life in Taiwan... you gotta love it.
