Friday, December 1st I cannot believe it's Friday... Time flies so quickly, and today was the day that I was suppose to launch this site and roll out the press release. Oh well. Next week. The very last components include the bulletin board software installation, the description page of the ad products, Investor Relations (now how do I do that?), and more profiles, though I may just turn on the site without completing those. If I can get a couple of more corporate sponsors, great, if not, whatever. Value goes up when the site does.
I took more pictures throughout the day yesterday and started thinking that if I keep this up, this site is not only going to serve all of my Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals but will also be a "window to Taipei" of sorts. All of my friends who have already left Taiwan are going to see some of these shots and think, "I miss Taiwan!" And for myself, I have a great little documentary of my life here. I am so very glad that I started this project. It is way too cool.

By the way, I've picked up this weird habit of repeating phrases twice from the Romeo Must Die CD and also because I listen to a lot of R&B funk. Bump it up, bump it up! I'm listening to it as I type this. Also, I have this tendency of writing about the night before, and that's because I've recently tried to avoid turning on my laptop at home in the evenings and instead give myself fifteen minutes or so in the mornings to write up an entry. Unrelated, I'm starting to miss Gus. Where is that boy?! Here are scenes from lunch yesterday, when Wennie and I hit Warners again for the second day straight. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. First we got some shots of the construction going on for this weekend's EXPO event. It's those bad-ass trucks that got my attention.
I've had this craving for a Hot Dog on a Stick which Richard introduced me to ages ago. Now Wennie is getting hooked too, but GET THIS. She's never seen these in Canada! Laurie and Adella have never tried one before either and I'm like, give me a break! This is freakin' STAPLE FOOD where I'm from, we had this served in our school cafeteria in elementary school, except that we call them CORN DOGS like normal people.
At Warners, we ran into FRANK. Didn't I just have dinner with him the night before?! I couldn't help myself. I snuck up beside him and took a shot. I cracked myself up. I guess I cracked him up too. And on our way back to the office, we ran into... MIKE! Okay okay, so it is a really small world in which we live but to be fair, a lot of the people we know work around this Hsin-Yi district. It's the high-growth section (big time) of Taipei and is really starting to look like Hong Kong. It's is a good thing. Many of the multinational companies that can afford the high rents are moving to this area.
My department had a company dinner at a Japanese restaurant. I don't talk about my day job much (either online or off), mainly because I treat it as a paycheck to help pay my bills while I move mountains elsewhere. Here are two shots from dinner. The first picture is of me and the Executive Director of the department.
The main reason I left Citibank in '98 was because I needed a less-demanding job so that I could focus more of my efforts on CAPT, which I chaired at that time. I also took the opportunity to educate myself on the stock market which I never had time to do before. Later, Gus and I created .ORG, and did so with the explicit intention of designing it to be self-sustaining, as much as possible. That we did and are pretty proud of it! It requires so little effort to run these days (an hour a day, if even) and has allowed me to focus on the b-plan for .COM and Gus on his b-school applications.
I kept a distance at the office for quite awhile, but over time, my local colleagues have really grown on me, and vice versa (errr... I think). They're nice people. I support a staff of over 50-60 people I guess, and though I still am a very serious person at work, I do get a little goofy on occasion. I'm pretty tough with these guys because as I review their English documents, I also take the time to explain to them what my logic is behind my edits. Subsequently, they are not allowed to come to me again with the same errors, else I charge them NT$ per question. LOL! It's a love-me-or-leave-me kind of thing.
As I was downloading all of the above photos this morning, I also took these shots using the webcam function. Scary huh? I don't exactly look my best in the morning, eyes all swollen and everything. Plus, I've been pushing myself a little too much lately, I feel like I'm perpetually tired. MAN. I intended this entry to be a short one, but look what happened. I can be such a ding dong sometimes.
