What is the difference between traditional and online marketing?

Here we go, here we go. Work was steady as usual, and during my free time I finalized the advertisement products page of this site, which I'm pretty happy about. Mostly because it is straightforward and easy to understand. At least I hope it is.

One of the things that gets on my nerves BIG TIME about many commercial websites is reading their advertising policies and not understanding what in the world they are talking about. I'd like to think of myself as above average intelligence, yet till this day and despite the fact that I am "in the industry", the terms "media kits", "creatives", "CPMs", "CTRs", "ROS", "page views", "impressions", "hits", and RICH MEDIA get on my nerves. It makes no sense to me why an entirely new lingo has to be created just to sell ad space.

I'll bet a million dollars that many companies that want to buy ad space - particularly those with a small and/or more traditional marketing staff who may not necessarily be savvy Internet marketing gurus but who do have marketing dollars to spend - visit these sites, read through a few pages, and then leave. I do it all the time. It really does not matter what kind of business it is, Old Economy or New, or what kind of products are being sold. If it takes more than a minute for would-be customers to understand what the product is, game's over. That is the REAL reason why banner advertising revenue models don't work.

Anyway, enough ranting for the day.

Still on the digital camera kick...

Last night I took some photos at home and yes, I've gone nuts with this digital camera. It's just too cool. Here are two shots of the piano that I've rented for the past two or three years. I love these photos for some reason. I used to play a lot more than I do now but because of my carpal tunnel I have had to refrain.

Below is an accidental photo that I took of Laurie's desk at home. She works her ass off and has been preparing for a lecture that she's giving later on this week. I kind of liked the photo for some reason. The other pictures are of Mr. Computer Man whom I gracefully attacked earlier today (to fix my USB port which is now working yay!), a shot of my desk at the office, and then Ginny and Tommy whom I visited for a little bit in the afternoon. Ginny leaves tomorrow for the States.

Tommy brought us coffee and had Ginny call me beforehand to tell me to "stand by". She was helping him with some paperwork. Isn't that sweet? They have the coolest friendship. And, I finally figured out who Tommy reminds me of... my brother!

Anyway, I'm still very impressed with this digital camera. Perhaps in six months everyone will have one, or better yet, we'll have little chips imbedded in our contact lenses that snap a picture if we power blink three times but for now, I am totally wowed by it.
