Should I stay or should I go?

Laurie took off yesterday and Adella left last week, so now it's just me in the apartment. It's kind of weird. Laurie is having a tough time trying to decide where she wants to be, and I can totally understand why. Her family and her "birdie loves" as she calls them (LOL) are all back in Canada, but her work, which she loves very much, is here. At some point, she's going to have to choose or else she won't be able to move forward in any area of her life.

I'm pretty much in the same boat, and to have such a dilemma really, really SUCKS. It almost feels like the turning point I experienced when I had to drop IPO, except that in that particular situation my priorities were crystal clear. In this case, there is no definitive answer.

I really really miss my friends and my family and all the comforts of the good 'ole United States of America, i.e. Taco Bell tacos with extra sour cream... oooh yum yum! But how can one easily give up the life I lead in Taipei? I was just reading through some of my journal entries and couldn't help but notice that I have a very active lifestyle out here. I know I'm fortunate.

Between work, friends, birthdays, family commitments, my own visits back to the U.S., CAPT events, and friends coming in town on business, one can stay busy ALL the time in Taipei. Not to mention the fact that there are always new people moving into the area and that it's so easy to meet people if you really want to, or even if you don't. Carol says that I am who I am and would have an active lifestyle no matter where I live. Perhaps, but it's not quite the same thing. Ideally, I'd like spend an equal amount of time in both places.

We'll see what happens.

No one can be more pathetic than Yours Truly...

Last night May called me. I hadn't talked to her in a while and had noted in the back of my mind to call her before taking off for the States. She clears her throat and says, "Ahem. Did you forget something?" And the conversation continued:

 Me: "Uhhh... no?"

May: "Think."

Me: "Ummm... did I forget something? Well, I know you're pregnant..."

May: "Christine. I already had the baby."

 Me: "What?! When?!"

May: "Almost four weeks ago. I've been waiting for you to call."

Me: "HOLY SMOKES. May I am such a DING DONG.
        Jesus Christ Oh Mighty. Congratulations!"

Normally I'd excuse myself by going off about how busy I am these days, but in this case, there was absolutely nothing for me to say. How does one forget that a close friend - not an acquaintance mind you - is soon to have a child?! I say this all the time, that if someone doesn't remind me, I am going to forget to show up at my own wedding. Ugh. Believe it or not, May didn't hold it against me and invited me over anyway. Sheesh. I think she thinks I'm nuts but she won't say it.

So tonight after work, I went straight to her place to see Megan, her new born little girl. Cassidy is almost four, and yes, I got the privilege of naming them both. Click on the photo for more pictures. I am SUCH a moron. Sometimes I do not know WHY my friends bother to keep me around. In any case, the kids are adorable. Can't wait to have my own. I just hope I remember to do so... I can just see Corrina reading this and shaking her head...

While I was showing May certain sections of this website, Cassidy saw the photos in yesterday's entry and said, "Ching-Mei Ai-ee hao ke ai!" May and I cracked up.
